Why this site exists
Math is the GED subject that holds the most people back. GED Testing Service looked at 77,000 people who had passed three of the four subjects, and for 82% of them, the one left was math. Reading was 11%, social studies 5% and science 2%.
If that’s you, you’re far from alone. A lot of the free practice online doesn’t look much like the real test, though. It’s often multiple choice only, with no clock and no worked answers. The real test has five question formats, starts with a few questions you answer without a calculator, gives you a formula sheet, and runs on a timer.
So we built free practice that works like the real test and explains every answer, including why the wrong ones are wrong.
How the questions are made
Our questions are original, and they’re generated fresh each time instead of pulled from a stored list. When you press start, each question gets its own numbers, its own story, its own answer choices and its own worked solution, all worked out together from one random seed.
That helps you in a few ways:
- A retake is never the same test. Practicing twice shows whether the skill stuck, instead of whether you remembered an answer.
- The answer key can’t drift. The question and its answer come from the same calculation, so they can’t disagree.
- Nothing is copied from anyone. There’s no borrowed question bank here. There are 101 question generators instead.
Before the site goes live, every generator is run thousands of times. If any question comes out with no correct choice, two identical choices, a missing explanation or an answer outside what the question allows, the site won’t build until it’s fixed.
How we handle facts
Facts about the test (how many questions, how long, calculator rules, passing scores, what’s on the formula sheet) come from what GED Testing Service or ACE has published. We link to the GED Testing Service page right where the fact is used. When they haven’t published something, we say so instead of guessing. Our editorial policy explains how this works, including the things we won’t put an exact number on.
